Sharing expenses with friends, family, or colleagues? Kixy's Split Money feature makes it easy to divide bills and keep track of who owes what. Whether you're splitting a restaurant bill, sharing household expenses, or dividing holiday costs, our Split Money feature helps you manage your shared expenses effortlessly.

Getting started

You can Split Money in two ways:

  • In a one-to-one Chat with an individual contact

  • Within a Circle (a group of multiple people)

Creating a new Split Money

  1. First, open either your one-to-one Chat or Circle where you want to split money

  2. Look for the Plus + icon next to where you type your messages and tap it

  3. Select Split Money from the menu options

  4. Tap + Add Bill to begin splitting and expense

Setting up the bill

When adding a bill, you'll need to specify several important details:

The payer

  • At the top of the screen, select who initially paid the bill

  • For example, if Sarah paid for everyone's dinner at a restaurant with her card, select Sarah as the Payer

  • This helps Kixy calculate who owes money from whom

Bill details

  • Enter the total amount that needs to be split

  • Choose a category from the menu. For example, "Payment"

  • Add a description (e.g. "Saturday dinner at Wetherspoons")

  • Tap Continue when you've entered these details

Choosing how to split

You have two options for splitting the bill:

Equal split

  • Divides the total amount equally between all participants

  • Perfect for shared meals or group activities where everyone owes the same amount

Manual split

  • Allows you to adjust how much each person owes

  • Useful when people ordered different items or should pay different amounts

  • Simply enter the specific amount each person needs to pay

Managing the split

After setting up how the bill is split:

  1. Review the split to ensure all amounts are correct

  2. Tap Add to confirm

You can now:

  • View Bill Details by tapping on the bill

  • See who the payer is and who owes money

  • Check individual amounts owed

  • Delete the bill if needed

  • Edit the bill to make adjustments

Adding multiple bills

Need to split more than one expense? Perhaps a taxi fare after your restaurant meal? You can:

  1. Tap on the Plus + sign to add another bill

  2. Follow the same steps as before for each additional expense

  3. Kixy will automatically calculate the combined total

Finalising the split

When you've added all bills:

  1. Check the Total to Split is correct

  2. Tap Continue

  3. Review the summary page carefully

  4. Tap Send Split Request when you're satisfied everything is correct

What happens next?

After sending the split request:

  • A notification appears in your Chat or Circle

  • Everyone can see the total amount to be split

  • The amount left to pay is clearly displayed

  • Participants can easily track who has and hasn't paid their share

Tips for successful splitting

  • Add bills promptly while everyone remembers the expenses

  • Use clear descriptions to help others recall what each bill is for

  • Double-check amounts before sending split requests

  • Use the Edit function if you notice any mistakes

  • Keep track of payments through the Bill Details screen

🧠 Remember, you can always view and manage your splits by returning to the Chat or Circle where you created them. This helps everyone stay informed and up-to-date with shared expenses.
